A small aircraft made an emergency landing on a busy roadway in Gainesville, Georgia, on Monday, crashing into several vehicles and causing minor injuries to multiple people, according to local authorities. The dramatic incident was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, showing the plane descending onto the road amid moving traffic.
Police said the single-engine aircraft was on a training flight when the pilot was forced to attempt a landing on the street after the plane experienced a loss of power. During the landing, the aircraft’s right wing clipped a vehicle, while the fuel tank detached and struck the rear of an SUV before hitting another car. Several people sustained minor injuries, though no fatalities were reported.
Following the crash, the affected road was closed to traffic, and residents were warned to expect extended delays as emergency crews cleared the scene and assessed damage. Authorities secured the area to prevent further risk, given the fuel spill and debris scattered across the roadway.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the aircraft was travelling from Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville to Cherokee County Regional Airport in Canton. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot encountered engine trouble and attempted to return to Gainesville, but the plane did not have sufficient power to reach the airport, prompting the forced landing on the road.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Hawker Beechcraft BE-36 reported engine issues around 12:10 pm local time. The FAA confirmed it will investigate the incident alongside the NTSB to determine the cause of the mechanical failure and assess whether any safety violations occurred.
Officials said the pilot’s decision to attempt an emergency landing likely prevented more serious injuries, given the heavy traffic in the area at the time. Investigations are ongoing, and further details are expected once federal authorities complete their preliminary
