Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Monday asserted that the Election Commission will “leave no stone unturned” to ensure fear-free and transparent elections in West Bengal, amid heightened political tensions and concerns over poll-related violence in the state.
Addressing officials and stakeholders ahead of upcoming electoral exercises, Kumar emphasised the Commission’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the democratic process. He said comprehensive measures are being put in place to guarantee that voters can exercise their franchise without intimidation, coercion, or undue influence.
The assurance comes against the backdrop of West Bengal’s history of politically charged elections, where allegations of violence, voter suppression, and irregularities have frequently surfaced. The Commission is expected to deploy central forces, enhance surveillance, and tighten monitoring mechanisms across sensitive constituencies to prevent disruptions.

Kumar also highlighted the role of administrative preparedness, directing local authorities to ensure strict adherence to election protocols. This includes the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, swift action on complaints, and the use of technology to track and address violations in real time.
Political parties have often raised concerns over the conduct of elections in the state, making the Commission’s proactive stance particularly significant. Observers note that the credibility of the electoral process in West Bengal will depend heavily on the effectiveness of these measures on the ground.
As preparations gather pace, the Election Commission’s focus remains on building voter confidence and ensuring a level playing field for all contestants. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining how effectively these assurances translate into action during the polls.
