Torrential overnight rains brought Gurugram to a grinding halt on Thursday, submerging roads, residential areas, and key intersections, while crippling traffic across the city. The district administration reported 133 mm of rainfall in Gurugram and 122 mm in Wazirabad tehsil by 8:30 AM, following relentless downpours that began Wednesday evening.
Major routes like the Narsinghpur stretch of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Basai, and Golf Course Extension Road were inundated, alongside Rajiv Chowk, Sheetla Mata Road, Sadar Bazaar, and Bus Adda. Sectors 4, 5, 12, 13, 22, 23, 30, 31, 40, 45, 47, 48, and 51, plus areas like Basai Chowk and Sohna Road, faced severe waterlogging. A 7-8 km traffic jam clogged National Highway 48 from Narsinghpur to Rajokri, with Subhash Chowk under 2.5 feet of water, stranding commuters until 2 AM.
Gurugram traffic police warned of slow movement via X, citing widespread disruptions. Frustrated residents vented on social media, demanding accountability from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG). The MCG responded, stating that machinery was deployed and drains were operating at full capacity to manage stormwater.
