Israeli airstrikes hammered the Gaza Strip, killing at least 34 Palestinians, including 10 waiting for nutritional supplements at a Deir al-Balah medical clinic, according to Gaza’s Nasser Hospital and Project Hope. The dead included two women and five children, with the clinic sustaining minor damage. Dr. Mithqal Abutaha, Project Hope’s project manager, called the attack a “tragedy” and a violation of humanitarian laws, lamenting, “People came seeking health and support, but instead faced death.” Gaza’s Health Ministry reports over 57,000 Palestinians killed since October 2023, more than half women and children, though it doesn’t distinguish between civilians and combatants.
The Israeli military reported one soldier killed in Khan Younis on July 9, when militants emerged from a tunnel attempting an abduction, marking 18 soldier deaths in three weeks—one of the deadliest periods recently. The military claims it targeted a militant involved in the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, which killed 1,200 and took 251 hostages, and dismantled 130 Hamas sites, including a 500-meter tunnel.
In the West Bank, violence flared with a Palestinian man killed in Rumana after stabbing a soldier, and an Israeli civilian killed in a supermarket attack in a settlement. The Gaza war has fueled a surge in West Bank violence, with large-scale Israeli operations killing hundreds and displacing tens of thousands.
