The Central Industrial Security Force on Tuesday honoured 19 of its personnel with the prestigious Director General’s Disc for successfully thwarting a Pakistani retaliatory attack on the strategically vital Uri Hydroelectric Power Projects in Jammu and Kashmir during the night of May 6-7, 2025. The force revealed that within hours of India launching Operation Sindoor against terrorist infrastructure across the Line of Control, Pakistan attempted to strike the Uri installations but was comprehensively repulsed with no damage sustained.
According to the official CISF statement, Pakistan responded to India’s precision strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir with intense shelling and hostile drone incursions aimed directly at the Uri-I and Uri-II power stations, located just kilometres from the LoC. The barrage endangered both critical national infrastructure and civilian settlements, placing the CISF contingent under Commandant Ravi Yadav at the forefront of an unexpected escalation that threatened to disrupt power generation and civilian safety.
Despite heavy gunfire and incoming shells that landed perilously close to residential complexes, the CISF team executed a multi-layered defence: neutralising multiple hostile drones that were attempting to target the dam and power facilities, securing armouries to prevent secondary explosions, and conducting door-to-door evacuation of NHPC staff, their families, women, and children under live fire. The entire operation was completed without any loss of life or damage to the installations.

A senior officer familiar with the incident confirmed that Uri was among the first targets selected by Pakistan due to its proximity to the LoC and its strategic importance to India’s power grid. “Intelligence was robust and ground forces were on high alert. Drones were shot down within minutes and a massive civilian evacuation was executed flawlessly,” the officer stated, emphasising the preparedness that prevented what could have been a major infrastructure disaster.
The commendation ceremony held at CISF headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday recognised the extraordinary courage and professionalism displayed under direct enemy fire. By safeguarding one of India’s most critical hydroelectric assets and ensuring zero civilian casualties, the 19 awardees exemplified the force’s role as the silent guardian of the nation’s strategic installations during the high-intensity retaliation that followed Operation Sindoor.
