A car drove into a crowd of pedestrians in Berlin’s north-western Wedding district, injuring several people, including children, in an incident authorities have classified as an accident. The collision occurred around 1:10 pm local time on Seestraße, near the corner of Dohnagestell, according to reports from Bild and Reuters.
Emergency services, including police, ambulances, and the Berlin fire brigade, swiftly responded to the scene, where multiple injuries were reported, with some children sustaining light injuries and an accompanying adult suffering severe injuries.
The cause of the accident and the full extent of the injuries remain under investigation, with authorities yet to release detailed information. The Berlin fire brigade confirmed the incident’s accidental nature, dispelling initial concerns of a deliberate act, though no further details on the driver or circumstances have been disclosed.
Images from the scene showed a significant emergency response, with ambulances and police cordoning off the area, where rubble from a nearby building was also reported.
This incident follows a series of vehicle-related accidents in Germany, including a tragic May 2025 crash in Stuttgart that killed one person and injured seven, and a March 2025 incident in Mannheim that claimed two lives. While Berlin has experienced deliberate car attacks in the past, such as the 2022 Charlottenburg incident and the 2016 Christmas market attack, authorities have emphasized that the current event appears to be an accident.
As investigations continue, Berlin police are working to clarify the circumstances and ensure support for the victims, including the affected children and their families.
