Four Indian students were among six people injured in a stabbing attack at Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa, Russia, on Saturday. The incident occurred when a 15-year-old attacker armed with a knife entered the university dormitory and attacked several students. Police who tried to arrest him were also stabbed, escalating the severity of the situation.
According to the Russian Federal Health Ministry, the injured students are receiving medical care. One Indian student is reported to be in serious condition, while the other three are in moderate condition. The attacker, also seriously injured, has been admitted to a local children’s hospital. Authorities have confirmed that the teenager resisted arrest and inflicted harm on himself during the incident.
Local media reports identified the assailant as a member of a banned neo-Nazi group, shouting nationalist slogans referencing the Holocaust during the attack. The motive and background of the teenager are under investigation, and a high-level probe has been launched by authorities in Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan Republic, about 1,200 km east of Moscow.

The Indian Embassy described the incident as “unfortunate” and confirmed that consulate officials from Kazan are en route to provide assistance to the injured students. Embassy officials are coordinating with Russian authorities to ensure medical and legal support for the victims.
In response, the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate diplomatic action to protect Indian students studying in Russia. AIMSA’s letter emphasized the need for strengthened safety measures and justice for the students, warning that such incidents create fear and insecurity among Indian medical students abroad.
This attack has raised concerns about the safety of Indian nationals in foreign universities, prompting calls for stronger diplomatic engagement and protective measures. Authorities in Russia continue to investigate the attack, while India monitors the situation closely to safeguard its citizens overseas.
