India remembered its first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on his 63rd death anniversary on Saturday, with a state-organized tribute ceremony held in Patna. Leaders, officials, and citizens gathered at his samadhi at Bans Ghat on the banks of the Ganga River to pay homage to the Bharat Ratna awardee.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the samadhi site and offered floral tributes, while also inspecting the arrangements and issuing instructions to the officials responsible for the ceremony. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary was also present to participate in the commemoration.
In a statement, Samrat Choudhary said, “Paid tribute to the first President of India, Desh Ratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad, at the state function organised on the occasion of his death anniversary, along with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar… His simplicity, humility, scholarship and dedication towards the nation will always inspire all the countrymen.”

Several senior administrative officials attended the ceremony, including Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Secretary to the Chief Minister Kumar Ravi, Secretary Chandrashekhar Singh, Patna District Magistrate Tyagarajan SM, and Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma. A large number of citizens also gathered to pay their respects.
Following the tribute, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected the electric crematorium at Bans Ghat, as well as the newly constructed crematorium and Mandiri Nala (drainage) in the Bans Ghat complex. He directed officials to ensure proper maintenance and improvement of the facilities and noted that once the Mandiri drain is completed, Bans Ghat will be connected to the four-lane road near Beiley Road by the Income Tax roundabout.
The ceremony reaffirmed Bihar’s homage to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, honoring his enduring legacy as a freedom fighter, statesman, and India’s first President.
