Metro services on Bengaluru's Purple Line were briefly disrupted on Thursday evening after a technical malfunction involving the doors of a train at Cubbon Park Metro Station caused delays of up to 17 minutes. The incident occurred just two days after another major disruption on the city's metro network, raising fresh concerns among commuters over service reliability. However, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said the issue was resolved promptly and normal operations have since resumed.
According to BMRCL, the incident took place at around 7:36 p.m. when the doors of a train stationed at Cubbon Park Metro Station failed to close properly due to a technical fault. As part of standard safety procedures, metro authorities halted the train and initiated precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety before allowing services to continue.
BMRCL said commuters on the affected train were safely deboarded at Cubbon Park Metro Station while technical teams inspected the malfunction. The evacuation and safety procedure took approximately 17 minutes to complete, leading to temporary delays for five subsequent train services operating on the Purple Line. Officials stressed that the decision to deboard passengers was taken solely as a precautionary measure.

Following the evacuation, Operations and Maintenance teams attended to the faulty train and rectified the door issue. Once the technical checks were completed and the system was declared safe for operation, regular train services resumed across the Purple Line. BMRCL confirmed that the disruption was limited to the affected period and that normal schedules were restored soon afterwards.
The latest disruption comes only days after another operational issue affected Bengaluru Metro services, drawing attention to the need for consistent maintenance and efficient response mechanisms on the city's expanding metro network. Despite the inconvenience caused to commuters, officials maintained that all prescribed safety protocols were followed throughout the incident.
BMRCL has assured passengers that passenger safety remains its highest priority and that technical issues are addressed immediately whenever they occur. The corporation also reiterated that its maintenance teams continue to monitor the network closely to minimise service disruptions and ensure reliable metro operations across Bengaluru.
