A drone was shot down on Wednesday near Baghdad International Airport, a day after a similar incident targeted the facility, according to two Iraqi security sources. Officials said there were no casualties or material damage reported in the latest episode.
“One drone was downed near Baghdad airport, with no casualties or material damage,” an Iraqi security source said. A second security official in Baghdad confirmed the development, adding that investigations were underway to determine the origin and intent behind the drone.
The airport complex includes a military base that hosts a US diplomatic facility and has previously housed troops from the US-led coalition. The area has been considered sensitive due to its strategic and diplomatic significance.

Separately, reports citing local sources indicated that a drone struck a logistical support camp associated with the United States Embassy in Iraq near the airport. There were no immediate details regarding injuries or structural damage in that incident.
Authorities have not publicly identified any group responsible for the drone activity. Security forces have reportedly heightened surveillance measures around the airport and surrounding installations following the back-to-back incidents.
The developments come amid heightened regional tensions, with security agencies closely monitoring potential threats to diplomatic and military sites in and around Baghdad.
