Celebrated filmmaker Bobby Sarma Baruah’s Assamese-language drama Rador Pakhi (translated as "Morning Sunshine") is poised to make waves on the international stage with its upcoming premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025.
The film presents a heartfelt and inspiring narrative centered on Jyoti, a young woman afflicted with spinal muscular atrophy—a debilitating neuromuscular disorder—that confines her to bed from a very early age. Despite her physical limitations, Jyoti embarks on a remarkable journey to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming an accomplished author. This poignant story delves deep into themes of perseverance, courage, and the triumph of the human spirit against overwhelming odds.
Rador Pakhi previously garnered critical acclaim during its world premiere at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa last year, where it was showcased in the prestigious Indian Panorama section, highlighting the best of Indian cinema.

Her films often spotlight marginalized communities and untold stories from Assam, bringing them to the forefront of Indian cinema.
With its international premiere at IFFM, Rador Pakhi aims to showcase Assamese cinema’s rich storytelling tradition to a wider global audience. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, known for celebrating Indian cinema across genres and languages, will provide an esteemed platform for Baruah’s emotionally resonant film, expected to spark conversations about disability, resilience, and hope.
This milestone further cements Bobby Sarma Baruah’s role as a pioneering voice in regional filmmaking and underscores the growing prominence of Assamese films in India’s cinematic landscape.
