An Air Canada Boeing 737 MAX 8 veered off a taxiway and came to rest on the grass after landing at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport on Thursday afternoon. All 162 people on board, including 156 passengers and six crew members, were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported following the incident.
The aircraft was operating Air Canada Flight AC774 from Los Angeles to Montreal and landed on Runway 06L at around 4 p.m. local time. While exiting the runway and moving toward the taxiway, the aircraft left the paved surface and stopped on the grass, prompting airport authorities to activate emergency procedures and begin a response operation.
Following the incident, Montréal-Trudeau International Airport temporarily closed its North Runway to allow emergency teams to respond and ensure passenger safety. Travellers were transported to the terminal by bus, and Air Canada later confirmed that all passengers and crew members had safely reached the terminal. The airport continued limited operations using available runway capacity, though some delays were reported.

Airport officials said the incident affected normal flight schedules as authorities managed the response. NAV Canada warned passengers of possible delays due to reduced runway availability and weather conditions in the area. Normal airport operations later resumed after the aircraft incident was assessed and the North Runway was reopened.
Air Canada has launched an investigation into the incident in coordination with relevant authorities. Flight-tracking data indicated that the aircraft landed safely before turning toward Taxiway B1, where it appeared to overshoot a sharp turn while transitioning from the runway. Rain and variable wind conditions were reported at the airport around the time of the event.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was involved in the investigation process, and the airport later confirmed that the North Runway reopened at 9:55 p.m. Officials have advised passengers to check their flight status as assessments continue. The cause of the aircraft leaving the taxiway has not yet been determined.
