Acumen, the Indian partner of the University of Tokyo for the Government of Japan’s “Study in Japan from South Asia” initiative, is set to launch Navi Japan, a groundbreaking mobile app and personalised student support service. This initiative aims to connect Indian and South Asian students with Japan’s world-class educational and career opportunities in fields like AI, robotics, green technology, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare.
The Navi Japan app, available for free on Android and iOS starting September 8, 2025, is designed to engage over 100,000 students across South Asia within the next 24 months.
Dr Kaori Hayashi, Director of the UTokyo India Office and Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo, emphasised the value of Japanese education: “Our universities offer diverse programmes, including English-taught degrees, affordable tuition, vibrant campus life, and a safe, welcoming environment. Adrian Mutton, Founder & CEO of Acumen, part of the Sannam S4 Group, highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership:“The strengthening India-Japan relationship, underscored by Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit and a $68 billion investment commitment, aligns with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Japan’s leadership in AI, robotics, advanced manufacturing, green tech, and healthcare opens unparalleled opportunities for Indian students to gain global skills and build cutting-edge careers. Navi Japan is a gateway to this exciting future, uniting two knowledge economies.”
Navi Japan combines a user-friendly mobile app with personalised support, including live chat, video counselling, and on-the-ground engagement at schools and universities across India. Developed in collaboration with the University of Tokyo and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the platform ensures students receive transparent, reliable guidance from aspiration to relocation.
Sagar Bahadur, Executive Director – Asia & Head of Regional Strategy at Acumen, added: “Indian students have traditionally focused on a limited range of study destinations. Navi Japan makes Japan an accessible and compelling choice, offering not just academic excellence but also pathways to innovation-driven careers and a culturally rich experience. Acumen is proud to streamline this journey for students, institutions, and employers.”
As Indian students increasingly explore non-traditional study destinations, Japan stands out for its world-class universities, cutting-edge research, and strong career prospects for international graduates. Through Navi Japan, Acumen and the University of Tokyo are committed to providing South Asian students with trusted resources and personalised support, ensuring a seamless and informed journey to study in Japan.
