Two persons suffered burn injuries and more than 70 residents were safely rescued after a fire erupted in an 18-storey residential building in Maharashtra's Thane city early Tuesday, officials said.
The blaze was reported at around 4:14 am at the Milan Hill building in the Shastri Nagar locality, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said. The fire originated in an electric duct on the 10th floor and spread through the duct between the 10th and 13th floors, generating heavy smoke that filled the building.
Nearly 70 residents were trapped due to the dense smoke and poor visibility. Fire brigade teams, along with disaster management staff, conducted a swift rescue operation, evacuating all those stranded. The fire was brought under control by around 5:30 am.
