Sri Lankan police arrested eleven Indian nationals, including three women, in the Akuregoda area of Thalangama for overstaying their visas and engaging in illegal gambling activities. The group, aged between 22 and 43, was apprehended during a late-night raid on Monday, prompted by a tip-off, according to local reports.
The operation led to the seizure of 20 mobile phones, three laptops, and a tablet computer, believed to be used in the illicit gambling setup. The arrests highlight Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to crack down on visa violations and illegal activities by foreign nationals. The suspects, comprising eight men and three women, now face charges related to immigration breaches and unlawful gambling.
Authorities are investigating the extent of the operation and whether it is linked to broader networks. The case has drawn attention to the enforcement of visa regulations in Sri Lanka, with police signaling stricter measures to curb such violations. Further inquiries are underway to determine the full scope of the illegal activities and potential additional charges.
