A 10-month-old infant named Alin Sherin Abraham (also reported as Aalin or Alin Sherin) from Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district has become Kerala's youngest organ donor after being declared brain dead following a tragic road accident. Her parents' courageous decision to donate her organs has given new life to multiple recipients, including another infant, turning profound grief into a beacon of hope amid widespread admiration across the state.
The incident occurred on February 5, when Alin was critically injured in a head-on collision near Pallam Borma Junction on MC Road in Kottayam while traveling from Kottayam to Thiruvalla with her mother and grandparents. A car coming from the opposite direction struck their vehicle, causing severe injuries to the child and others in the family. She was rushed to Amrita Hospital in Kochi (Ernakulam), where she received intensive treatment. On February 13, doctors declared her brain dead after confirming irreversible loss of brain function.
In the midst of their unimaginable loss, Alin's parents—Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John—consented to organ donation through Kerala's government-coordinated system (K-SOTTO). Her organs, including two kidneys, liver, heart valves, and corneas (or eyes), were harvested to benefit up to five recipients. Reports indicate her kidneys were allocated for transplant into a 10-year-old child at Government Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram, her liver to a six-month-old infant, heart valves to Sree Chitra Institute, and eyes to an eye bank. Transplant procedures were expedited, with organs transported under police escort, including to Thiruvananthapuram.

This act has been hailed as a landmark in Kerala's organ donation history, which already boasts high awareness and participation rates compared to other Indian states. Health Minister Veena George paid tribute on social media, noting that Alin would be remembered as the state's youngest organ donor and a symbol of selfless compassion.
