Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday in his first official engagement with the Prime Minister since assuming office. The meeting is being viewed as politically significant, coming soon after the formation of the United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Kerala and amid expectations of discussions on key development priorities for the southern state.
Although no official agenda has been released, the discussions are expected to centre on Kerala’s development needs, requests for central assistance, and other issues requiring intervention from the Union government. The meeting comes at a time when the new state administration is seeking to establish its working relationship with the Centre and push forward key infrastructure and welfare projects.
Later in the day, Satheesan is also scheduled to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Kartavya Bhavan in the national capital. Officials said the meeting is likely to focus on financial allocations and fiscal support for state-level programmes, although detailed discussions have not been officially disclosed.

The Chief Minister’s visit to Delhi follows a series of meetings with senior leaders of the Congress party over the weekend. He met Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, followed by discussions with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, as well as senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. These engagements are understood to have covered both organisational matters and post-election strategy, as the party consolidates its position following the recent Assembly elections.
During these interactions, Satheesan is reported to have expressed gratitude to the party leadership for their support during the election campaign. Party insiders indicated that discussions also included future political planning and coordination between the state leadership and the central leadership of the Congress party.
The Chief Minister’s arrival in Delhi also drew public attention at Kerala House, where students and supporters gathered to greet him late into the night. He interacted with visitors and posed for photographs, reflecting the celebratory mood surrounding the formation of the new government after the UDF’s electoral victory, in which the coalition secured 102 seats while the Left was reduced to 35 seats and the BJP won three seats. The meeting with the Prime Minister is expected to set the tone for the state’s engagement with the Union government in the coming months.
