Security forces in Manipur’s Churachandpur district arrested a 49-year-old woman on Monday after uncovering a stash of illegal drugs valued at Rs 10 lakh at her residence in the S Munnuam area. The seizure included 1,200 WY tablets, commonly known as Yaba tablets, a potent psychotropic substance containing methamphetamine and caffeine. Known as the "crazy drug," Yaba is banned across India due to its highly addictive and dangerous nature.
The operation reflects intensified efforts by authorities to curb drug trafficking in the region, which has been grappling with instability since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023. The conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities has claimed over 260 lives and displaced thousands, prompting heightened security measures, including frequent search operations.
In a separate incident on the same day, police apprehended an active member of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak-PRO) in Imphal East’s Napet Palli area, signaling ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent networks.
