In a shocking case from Assam’s Dibrugarh district, police arrested a woman, her daughter, and two teenage accomplices on Sunday for allegedly murdering the woman’s husband, Uttam Gogoi, in what authorities are calling a cold-blooded, pre-planned killing.
Senior Superintendent of Police V V Rakesh Reddy confirmed that the arrests were made after Gogoi’s body was discovered at his home in Lahon Gaon, Jamira, under suspicious circumstances. Police revealed that Gogoi’s daughter, a class 9 student, had confessed to her role in the gruesome plot.
According to investigators, the mother and daughter allegedly conspired to kill Gogoi by hiring two minors to carry out the murder, paying them lakhs of rupees and even gold jewellery as reward. The teenage killers, who were close to the daughter, had reportedly tried to murder Gogoi on earlier occasions but failed before finally succeeding last month.

Residents of Barbaruah erupted in anger, staging a protest outside the local police station and demanding the harshest punishment for those involved. “It was a pre-planned murder. We want strict punishment,” Gogoi’s brother insisted, recalling how he found suspicious injuries on the victim’s body despite being told Gogoi had suffered a pressure stroke.
Police said the young daughter’s classmate was among those arrested and that the exact motive is still being probed. A senior officer hinted the family had been plotting the crime for a long time. The case has sent shockwaves across the region, exposing a chilling murder conspiracy that unfolded within the victim’s own home.
