An 18-year-old woman was arrested in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly killing a middle-aged man during an attempted sexual assault, police officials confirmed on Friday. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in Murwal village and has triggered discussions around self-defence and legal accountability.
According to police, the body of the victim, identified as Sukhraj Prajapati (50), was discovered inside a house around 3.30 pm. He had sustained fatal head injuries caused by a sharp-edged weapon. Station House Officer Rajendra Singh Rajawat said the police were alerted after local residents informed authorities about the incident.
Following a complaint filed by the victim’s family members, police registered a case of murder and launched an investigation. The accused woman was taken into custody later the same night, and the weapon allegedly used in the incident—a ‘farsa’—was recovered from the house, the SHO said.

During interrogation, the woman reportedly told police that the man had entered her house and attempted to sexually assault her. She claimed that she acted in self-defence and struck him with the weapon that was available inside the house, which led to his death. Police stated that her version of events is being examined as part of the investigation.
Officials said the matter is under further probe to establish the sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the incident. Statements from witnesses and forensic evidence are being collected to corroborate the claims made by both sides.
The accused woman is scheduled to be produced before a court later on Friday. Police said further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation and judicial proceedings that follow.
