The charred remains of 32-year-old UPSC aspirant Ramkesh Meena were discovered in his fourth-floor flat in north Delhi’s Gandhi Vihar area on October 6, prompting a murder investigation that culminated in the arrest of three individuals, including his live-in partner.
Delhi Police revealed on Sunday that the 21-year-old woman, a BSc Forensic Science student from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, orchestrated the killing with her former boyfriend and an associate. The trio allegedly strangled Meena, doused his body with oil, ghee, and liquor, and ignited a gas cylinder to stage the scene as an accidental fire caused by an AC explosion.
CCTV footage proved pivotal in cracking the case, showing two masked men entering the building on the night of October 5–6, followed by the woman exiting with one of them at 2:57 a.m.—shortly before the blaze erupted. Call detail records placed her near the crime scene, leading to her arrest on October 18 after raids in Moradabad. Under interrogation, she confessed and implicated her accomplices, both also from Moradabad. Police recovered a hard disc, laptops, a trolley bag, the victim’s shirt, and two mobile phones from the suspects.

The motive stemmed from Meena allegedly recording obscene videos of his partner and refusing to delete them, which she shared with her ex-boyfriend, an LPG distributor who reportedly flew into a rage. The group strangled Meena before setting the fire using a gas cylinder valve opened by the ex-boyfriend, causing an explosion that initially misled investigators. The woman had been living with Meena in the rented flat, where he was preparing for civil services examinations.
Authorities continue to probe the case, examining digital evidence and reconstructing the sequence of events. The arrests highlight the dangers of personal disputes escalating into calculated violence, even as forensic analysis and recovered items strengthen the police case against the accused. The incident has raised concerns about safety and privacy in live-in relationships among young professionals in the national capital.
