Shri Bhagwan Sharma, alias Guddu Pandit, a Shiv Sena MLA from Uttar Pradesh, faces serious allegations of sexually assaulting a 40-year-old woman and threatening her life, Bengaluru police reported on Monday. The case has sparked outrage, with authorities intensifying investigations into the incident that unfolded at a five-star hotel near Kempegowda International Airport.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman and her minor son were persuaded by the MLA to travel from Uttar Pradesh to Bengaluru on August 14. The MLA allegedly took them to various locations in the city that day. On August 16, he accompanied them to Chitradurga, and the following day, while returning, booked a room at a luxury hotel near the airport. There, he is accused of forcing the woman into sexual relations against her will and threatening to kill her when she resisted, as per the complaint.
The Bengaluru police registered a case on August 17 under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to sexual intercourse by deceitful means. “A thorough investigation is underway to ascertain the facts and ensure justice,” a senior police officer stated, withholding further details to protect the ongoing probe.

The allegations have raised serious concerns about the misuse of power by elected officials, prompting calls for swift action. The woman’s complaint highlights a pattern of coercion, and authorities are examining CCTV footage and hotel records to corroborate her account. The incident has also drawn attention to the safety of women traveling across states, with local activists demanding stringent measures to prevent such abuses.
As the investigation progresses, the case is likely to have significant political repercussions, with opposition parties in Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh expected to seize on the controversy to criticize the Shiv Sena’s leadership. The police have assured that all legal procedures will be followed to hold the accused accountable.
