A disturbing incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district has triggered outrage after an unidentified decomposed body was allegedly transported in a garbage tractor-trolley and buried near a municipal dumping ground. The incident, reported from Tendukheda town, has raised serious questions about civic responsibility, human dignity, and the handling of unclaimed bodies by local authorities. Residents expressed shock after details emerged regarding the manner in which the deceased was transported and buried.

According to officials, the body was discovered hanging from a tree in the Bagdari forest area on Friday. Police reached the spot and recovered the remains, which were reportedly in a highly decomposed state and believed to be four to five days old. Authorities initiated identification procedures, but after failing to establish the identity of the deceased, the body was officially classified as “unclaimed” under standard administrative procedure.

The controversy intensified after municipal workers allegedly transported the body using a tractor-trolley commonly employed for carrying garbage and waste material. Reports stated that the trolley still contained waste residue when the body was loaded into it. The vehicle then reportedly passed through parts of the town before reaching a burial site located close to a municipal dumping area, where the body was buried with minimal ceremony or formal arrangements.

Local residents and social activists criticised the incident, describing it as deeply insensitive and inhumane. Officials have not yet issued a detailed explanation regarding why the body was transported in a garbage trolley instead of a designated vehicle. The incident has also reignited broader concerns about the treatment of unclaimed bodies in smaller towns and rural regions where civic infrastructure and emergency management resources are often limited. Human rights advocates argued that every individual, regardless of identity or social status, deserves respectful handling after death.
