Two unidentified terrorists were killed and three soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer, were injured in a fierce encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, security officials reported.
The operation, launched in the Guddar forest area based on specific intelligence from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, involved a joint team of the Indian Army, J&K Police, and CRPF. The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army stated on X that vigilant troops detected suspicious activity, leading to a firefight after terrorists opened fire upon being challenged.
One terrorist was initially neutralized, followed by a second as the operation continued. The injured soldiers were promptly evacuated for medical treatment, with their conditions reported as stable. The identities of the slain terrorists are yet to be confirmed, and security forces suspect one or two more may still be hiding in the dense forest.

This encounter follows a surge in anti-terror operations in the region, with five terrorists, including a Hizbul Mujahideen commander, killed in Kulgam in December 2024. The ongoing operation, supported by drones and reinforcements, aims to secure the area amid heightened tensions following recent attacks, including the April 2025 Pahalgam massacre that claimed 26 lives.
