The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Friday strongly rejected allegations made by Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran regarding a letter allegedly written by AMMK MLA-elect Kamaraj, escalating the political controversy surrounding post-election coalition negotiations in Tamil Nadu. The dispute centres on competing claims over whether Kamaraj extended written support to TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay for the formation of a coalition government. Dhinakaran had earlier alleged that the letter circulating in public domain was “forged” and linked it to what he described as attempts at “horse trading” in the aftermath of the fractured election verdict.
In response, TVK dismissed the allegations and asserted that Kamaraj had voluntarily expressed support for the party’s government formation efforts. The party released video footage, claiming it showed the MLA-elect writing a letter endorsing TVK and stating that the decision was made with the knowledge and approval of AMMK leadership.TVK also accused Dhinakaran of spreading misinformation and attempting to misrepresent facts surrounding the support letter. The party maintained that it did not need to “bargain or negotiate” for backing, emphasising that its electoral performance had already positioned it as a central force in the new Assembly.
The controversy intensified after Dhinakaran visited Lok Bhavan and submitted a separate letter to Governor Rajendra Arlekar, alleging irregularities and reaffirming that AMMK’s MLA-elect remained aligned with the NDA and AIADMK bloc. He also backed AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the alliance’s rightful candidate for Chief Minister, further complicating the post-poll political equations.Dhinakaran claimed that the support letter attributed to TVK was part of a broader attempt to mislead public perception and influence coalition arithmetic in the hung Assembly. He insisted that Kamaraj remained loyal to the AIADMK-led alliance and questioned the authenticity of the document circulated by TVK.

TVK, which secured 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, is currently short of the 118-seat majority mark and has been engaging with smaller parties, including the Congress, CPI, and CPI(M), all of whom have extended varying levels of support. The Left parties have offered outside support, while Congress has also signalled alignment with the Vijay-led formation. With competing claims over letters of support and accusations of forgery, horse trading, and misinformation, the post-election scenario in Tamil Nadu remains highly contested, with the Governor’s decision on government formation now central to the next political phase.
