A Class 9 boy has been arrested for allegedly raping his six-year-old neighbour in Tripura’s Khowai district. The incident occurred on Saturday when the minor girl was at home with her elder sister while their parents were away cutting grass. According to the family’s complaint, the accused lured the child to his house on the pretext of showing her flowers, which she liked, and allegedly assaulted her.
Upon returning home, the girl complained of pain in her private parts. Her mother noticed black and red bruises all over the child’s body. The girl then narrated the incident to her mother. The girl’s father, who returned home around 11 PM after selling vegetables, was informed of the assault by his wife. He expressed deep anguish, stating that his daughter had only recently started school and was now severely traumatised by the incident.
The accused’s family reportedly approached the girl’s parents the same night and begged them to forgive their son. However, the matter came to light the following day when local residents confronted the boy and handed him over to the police. A case was subsequently registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police acted swiftly after receiving the complaint. Sub-Inspector Sampa Das said, “We received information regarding the rape of a minor child. Following that, we immediately started the process and registered the case. We spoke with the survivor and have detained the accused. The survivor has been sent for medical examination. We will follow legal proceedings as per the provisions of the POCSO Act.”
The young survivor is undergoing medical examination, and authorities have initiated further investigation. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over child safety in the area. Police have assured that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and that justice will be served as per the law.
