Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has accused coalition partner Tipra Motha of orchestrating a violent attack on BJP workers during a ‘Mann Ki Baat’ event in Asharambari, Khowai district, on Sunday morning, igniting a political firestorm. Saha, who visited the injured at GB Pant Hospital, condemned the “undemocratic attack” and ordered police to take strict action against the perpetrators.
The assault in the remote tribal village of Purba Taksaiya left three BJP workers hospitalized and seven others injured, with attackers also torching three vehicles and 10 motorcycles. “Such disgraceful acts won’t be tolerated,” Saha posted on Facebook, ensuring top medical care for the victims. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kudiarasu attributed the violence to internal rivalry, not the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, and confirmed an FIR and ongoing investigation with no arrests yet.
Tipra Motha, led by Pradyot Debbarma and part of the BJP-led government, denied involvement. Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma called the allegations a possible “conspiracy” and insisted the party does not attack allies. BJP’s Janajati Morcha general secretary Bipin Debbarma, however, claimed the attack targeted their members specifically.
