In a significant victory against terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir Police eliminated Haider, a top commander of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit, in a fierce encounter in the Dudu-Basantgarh forest of Udhampur district. Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat confirmed that Haider, active in the region for four years, was neutralized on June 26, though three associates escaped due to dense forests and adverse weather.
DGP Prabhat, speaking at Akhnoor police station, emphasized ongoing anti-terror operations, stating, "We are committed to eliminating all terrorists one by one." He refrained from disclosing the number of active terrorists in Jammu’s forest areas, citing security concerns.
The DGP was at Akhnoor to honor the police station with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ 'Award of Excellence' for 2024. Joined by CRPF Inspector General Gopal Sharma, Jammu Zone IG Bhim Sen Tuti, and DIG Shiv Kumar, Prabhat praised the station’s personnel for their strong public rapport, which he credited for a successful operation in the Akhnoor sector earlier this year. "Public support is crucial for our success," he noted, commending the Jammu police for tackling drug trafficking, bovine smuggling, and organized crime.

Prabhat also recognized the leadership of former Station House Officer (SHO) Tariq Ahmed, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mohan Sharma, and Superintendent of Police Brijesh Sharma for their stellar contributions in 2024. He extended best wishes to current SHO Sanjeev Chib and SDPO Varinder Gupta to uphold this legacy.
The encounter underscores the security forces’ relentless efforts to curb terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, bolstered by community cooperation.
