In a swift action, Tripura Police arrested three women on Saturday for allegedly torturing a six-year-old girl in Paresh Colony, West Tripura district. The accused reportedly tied the child’s hands and legs and subjected her to severe physical abuse, suspecting her of stealing Rs 20 from a neighbour’s home.
The police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023, along with Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities interrogating the accused and seeking further evidence.
The incident sparked widespread outrage after a video of the alleged torture went viral on social media. The child, who lives in vulnerable conditions after her mother eloped, is under the care of her father, a daily wage labourer. Officials confirmed that the girl is now receiving medical attention and counselling.
