A college student from Madurai was abducted and sexually assaulted by three assailants near Coimbatore International Airport late Sunday night, prompting widespread public condemnation. The victim, studying in Coimbatore, was with a male companion in a car at Brindavan Nagar around 11 pm when the trio struck, wielding a machete to injure her friend before forcing her into seclusion for the assault.
The perpetrators fled after the crime, leaving the woman unconscious and partially clothed; police discovered her upon arrival and rushed her to a private hospital for urgent medical care. Her injured companion, who briefly lost consciousness, later alerted authorities and was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital with severe wounds requiring immediate treatment.
Coimbatore City Police Commissioner constituted seven specialized teams under Deputy Commissioner N Devanathan to apprehend the suspects, with forensic units deployed Monday morning to gather critical evidence from the scene. Investigations focus on identifying the assailants through witness accounts, vehicle details, and physical traces left at the poorly lit stretch between Brindavan and SIHS Colony.
