Unidentified thieves allegedly arrived in an ambulance wearing nighties, masks, caps and gloves before breaking into a State Bank of India (SBI) automated teller machine (ATM) in Telangana’s Kamareddy district and escaping with cash. The incident took place in Gandhari village between 1 am and 1.30 am on Sunday, October 11, 2026. According to police, the suspects damaged the ATM using cutting equipment to access the cash inside. The unusual disguise and use of an ambulance have drawn attention to the robbery as investigators work to identify those involved.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the suspects arriving at the ATM in the ambulance and attempting to conceal their identities with masks and other clothing. The footage reportedly shows them damaging the machine before leaving with the stolen money. Police are examining the recordings to establish the sequence of events and trace the suspects’ movements before and after the robbery. Investigators are also checking whether the vehicle was a genuine ambulance or was used to disguise the suspects’ activities.
The theft came to light on Monday morning when local residents noticed that the ATM had been damaged and alerted the police. Officers reached the scene, registered a case and collected evidence with the assistance of a forensic clues team. Investigators are working to establish the amount of cash taken from the machine. The exact loss had not been confirmed, as officials needed to verify the ATM’s cash balance and transaction records before determining the amount stolen.

Police have not yet identified the suspects or confirmed how many people were involved in the robbery. Although the individuals seen in the footage appeared to be men, investigators have not ruled out the involvement of women. Authorities are examining the available evidence and reviewing the CCTV recordings as part of efforts to identify those responsible. Further details about the suspects and the circumstances of the robbery are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
The incident follows another ATM robbery in Telangana’s Karimnagar district in September, when two SBI machines in Durshed and Thimmapur were targeted on September 19. In the Durshed case, suspects allegedly interfered with CCTV surveillance before breaking into the ATM and stealing cash. Police identified the suspected involvement of a woman in that case based on the footage, and approximately Rs 8 lakh was reported stolen from the machine.
The latest robbery has renewed attention to ATM security and the methods used by criminals to conceal their identities during thefts. Investigators are examining whether the Kamareddy incident is connected to other ATM robberies in the state. However, no such link has been established publicly. Police are continuing to analyse the evidence, verify the amount stolen and determine whether the ambulance played a role in helping the suspects avoid detection.
