A tragic incident at Government Arignar Anna Model Higher Secondary School in Tamil Nadu has left the community reeling after a Class 12 student succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal assault by junior classmates. The confrontation, which occurred on December 4 between Class 11 and Class 12 students, escalated into a violent attack, resulting in grievous head injuries to the senior student.
Police reported that a group of fourteen Class 11 students allegedly assaulted the Class 12 boy with a wooden stick, inflicting severe trauma. Following the attack, the victim was rushed to the Government Hospital in Kumbakonam and later shifted to a private hospital in Thanjavur as his condition worsened. Despite emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain, he passed away around 2:30 am on Sunday, after three days in intensive care.
The 14 accused students, all minors, were immediately detained by the police and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which ordered their remand to a juvenile home. Authorities confirmed that the case, initially registered as an attempt to murder, will be reclassified as murder following the post-mortem report. Investigators are probing the circumstances leading to the deadly clash.

Education and law enforcement officials are examining whether pre-existing tensions between the classes contributed to the incident and whether lapses in supervision allowed such violence to occur within school premises.
