The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation on Wednesday demolished alleged illegal constructions at properties linked to Matin Patel, an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) corporator accused of sheltering a suspect in the Nashik TCS case. The action was carried out under police security following a notice issued earlier this month regarding unauthorised structures at multiple locations.
Authorities said the demolition targeted the residence, office and adjoining commercial establishments associated with Patel in the Naregaon area. The civic body had issued a 72-hour notice on May 9 seeking clarification over alleged illegal constructions. After Patel moved court seeking a stay, officials proceeded with demolition after no relief was granted.
The case against Patel stems from allegations that he provided shelter to Nida Khan, who was arrested on May 7 in central Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in connection with the Nashik TCS case. Police have claimed that Patel facilitated her stay prior to her arrest, prompting further investigation into his alleged involvement.

On Wednesday morning, civic teams carried out the demolition at multiple sites, including residential and commercial properties, as municipal officials maintained a heavy police presence to prevent any law-and-order issues. Authorities stated that the action was taken in accordance with provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, which allows action against unauthorised constructions.
Earlier, former AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel visited Patel’s family and criticised the municipal corporation’s swift action, arguing that legal processes were not fully exhausted. He claimed that the matter was being handled hastily and expressed support for the affected family.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Mayor Sameer Rajurkar had earlier indicated that proceedings to review Patel’s civic membership would be initiated after verification of documents related to his property. He added that if wrongdoing is established, further action, including cancellation of corporator status, could follow in accordance with legal provisions governing municipal representatives.
