Former Tamil Nadu electricity minister and DMK MLA V. Senthil Balaji on Sunday criticised the state government over ongoing power outages, accusing the ruling TVK administration of failing to address electricity supply issues within a month of assuming office. He urged the government to take what he described as "wartime measures" to restore normal power supply across the state.
In a statement, Balaji alleged that the government had failed to deliver on its promises and had disappointed the people who voted for it. He claimed that residents in several parts of Tamil Nadu were experiencing power cuts ranging from six to 12 hours, leading to public frustration and protests, including road blockades during the night.
The former minister also took a swipe at Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, saying the leader, known for his public speeches and "punch dialogues", had remained silent on the issue. Balaji further accused Electricity Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar of attempting to divert attention from administrative shortcomings by offering what he called a "new conspiracy theory" regarding the disruptions.

Questioning the government's explanation that thefts of fuse carriers and missing hard disks had contributed to the outages, Balaji challenged the logic behind the claims. He asked how incidents that allegedly occurred during the day could be responsible for power cuts experienced at night and questioned whether the state's electricity distribution network could be so heavily dependent on a single component.
Referring to the reported theft of hard disks, Balaji noted that police investigations had reportedly found no critical information stored on the devices. He argued that the government had failed to explain how the theft of such equipment could be directly linked to widespread power disruptions affecting consumers across the state.
The remarks come amid growing concerns over electricity supply in parts of Tamil Nadu, where residents have reportedly complained of prolonged outages. The government has yet to issue a detailed response to Balaji's latest allegations, while efforts to address the power situation continue to remain under public scrutiny.
