In a chilling incident in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, a 30-year-old woman, Rekha, allegedly strangled her live-in partner, Harakchand Lodha, 32, to death after tying his hands and feet with rope, driven by frustration over his chronic alcoholism. The murder, which took place late Thursday night, August 21, 2025, in Koloo Kheri Mevatiyan village under Jawar police station, saw Rekha maintain an eerie calm, continuing her daily chores until Lodha’s brother discovered the body the next morning, police said.

According to Jawar Station House Officer (SHO) Dhanraj, Rekha confessed to the crime, citing repeated quarrels over Lodha’s drinking habit as the motive. The couple, who had been living together for six to seven months after Lodha separated from his wife and children, had a physical altercation on the night of the murder. “Fed up with his addiction, Rekha tied his hands and feet and strangled him in a room,” Dhanraj told PTI. She then spent the night in the same room, carrying out routine tasks like collecting firewood and preparing food without alerting anyone.

Lodha’s brother, a neighbor, visited around 10 a.m. on Friday to check on him. When he inquired about Lodha, Rekha calmly pointed to his body on a cot, leaving the brother in shock, as reported by Hindustan Times. The police were alerted, and a case was registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Lodha’s body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem at a local hospital. Despite the confession, Rekha has not been arrested, with the SHO noting that further investigation is ongoing to ascertain additional details, including potential premeditation.

The incident has sparked discussions on X about domestic violence and alcohol-related disputes, with some users expressing concern over Rekha’s lack of immediate arrest. The couple’s frequent conflicts, often escalating into physical scuffles, highlight underlying tensions in their relationship, police said. Jhalawar SP Richa Tomar confirmed that the investigation will explore all angles, including Rekha’s mental state and the events leading to the crime. As the village grapples with the tragedy, authorities are urging calm while promising a thorough probe to deliver justice.
