Punjab Police on Monday claimed a major breakthrough in tackling cross-border crime, announcing the bust of a Pakistan-linked arms smuggling module in Amritsar. Six operatives, including a 16-year-old juvenile, were arrested, and six sophisticated pistols were recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Gurbir Singh alias Sonu, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa, Gorka Singh alias Gora, Rajwinder Singh alias Raju from Tarn Taran, Jaspal Singh alias Jass from Amritsar, and the juvenile. Recovered weapons included five .30 bore pistols and one 9mm PX5 pistol, according to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang was in direct contact with a Pakistan-based handler through social media, receiving coordinates to retrieve and distribute weapon consignments. These arms were reportedly supplied to criminals operating in the Majha and Doaba regions for illegal activities.

The investigation gained momentum after the arrest of Gurbir Singh and Gurpreet Singh, from whom two pistols were recovered. Interrogation of the duo helped police uncover the larger network, leading to the arrests of the remaining members of the module.
Punjab Police officials noted that several of the accused, including Gorka Singh and Rajwinder Singh, have prior criminal records involving NDPS Act violations, rape, and charges under the POCSO Act. The police are continuing further investigations to trace the full extent of the smuggling operations.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on cross-border criminal networks and have warned that stricter surveillance and intelligence-sharing measures will be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
