Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has announced that an artificial intelligence curriculum will be introduced in all government schools across the state from August. The initiative is aimed at preparing students for a technology-driven future and ensuring that children studying in government schools gain early exposure to emerging technologies. The minister said the state government had been working on the AI education plan for the past year and was now ready to implement it across schools.
Bains made the announcement on Thursday while addressing the 'Bright Minds Punjab 2026' programme at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan. The event was attended by former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Education Secretary Sonali Giri, teachers and students. The programme focused on recognising academic excellence and highlighting the government's plans to improve the quality of education and introduce modern learning opportunities for students.
According to the Education Minister, the government has spent nearly a year preparing the AI initiative before deciding to roll it out across all government schools. The curriculum is expected to help students understand artificial intelligence and its growing role in different sectors. The move is part of the state government's broader effort to modernise school education and provide students with skills that could become increasingly important in higher education and future careers.

During the programme, meritorious Class 12 students who secured more than 95 per cent marks in the board examinations were felicitated for their academic achievements. Addressing the students, Bains described them as the bright future of Punjab and the country. He expressed confidence that many of them would go on to serve society and the nation in different roles, including as civil servants, doctors, lawyers and other professionals.
Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia also addressed the gathering and stressed the importance of a strong education system in determining the progress of a nation. He said the development of any country depended heavily on the quality of education provided to its children. Sisodia added that ensuring access to quality education for every child should remain the foremost responsibility of any government.
The introduction of AI education in Punjab's government schools is expected to mark a major step towards integrating modern technology into classroom learning. By bringing artificial intelligence into the school curriculum, the government aims to give students an early understanding of rapidly changing technologies and better prepare them for future opportunities. The initiative is scheduled to begin across the state's government schools from August.
