Police have registered an FIR against a 32-year-old motorcyclist for allegedly overtaking the convoy of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol while riding under the influence of alcohol in Pune, officials said. The incident took place in the Shivajinagar area on Saturday evening, when the minister’s convoy was travelling from Pune airport towards Kothrud. According to police, the incident occurred at around 8:30 pm as the convoy reached Sancheti Chowk in Shivajinagar. The motorcycle rider allegedly entered the convoy’s path and overtook the vehicles in a reckless and negligent manner.

Police said the manner in which the motorcycle was being ridden could have endangered other road users and obstructed the movement of traffic. The convoy was travelling towards Kothrud after picking up its route from Pune airport when the alleged incident occurred. Officials said the motorcyclist cut into the convoy and moved ahead of it, prompting police to take action. The FIR describes the rider’s conduct as dangerous, alleging that his manner of driving posed a potential risk to commuters and could have disrupted the movement of vehicles on the busy road.

Police said the rider was subsequently subjected to a medical examination to determine whether he had consumed alcohol. According to officials, the medical test confirmed that he was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident. The medical finding forms part of the material being considered in the case, while the allegations against the motorcyclist will be dealt with through the legal process. The incident took place at Sancheti Chowk, a busy junction in Shivajinagar, where traffic movement can be substantial during evening hours.
