A three-member medical board conducting the postmortem examination has uncovered critical evidence in the shocking murder of 35-year-old Davinder Kumar, whose chopped body parts were discovered stuffed inside a drum on an abandoned plot near Jalandhar Bypass on Thursday. Experts detected signs of injection in the victim’s left hand, strongly indicating that he was administered an unknown substance before being killed.
The exact cause of death remains pending, as viscera samples have been dispatched to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed toxicological analysis. Officials confirmed on Sunday that the final determination will depend on these test results. During the autopsy, the body was found in six separate pieces, with the right hand notably missing; police teams are actively searching for the severed hand across the area.
Two suspects—a husband and wife—were arrested on Friday in connection with the crime. The prime accused has been identified as Shamsher alias Shera, a carpenter by profession. Investigations have established that Davinder Kumar, a resident of Bharti Colony in Ludhiana, shared a close friendship with Shamsher. Authorities suspect a financial dispute between the two men escalated fatally after Davinder recently returned from Mumbai, where he was employed at a printing and graphic design shop.

According to police findings, the accused allegedly used a saw to dismember the body, placed the parts inside a drum, and abandoned it on a vacant plot under the jurisdiction of Salem Tabri police station. A passerby noticed the suspicious drum and alerted authorities, leading to the grim discovery. Investigators believe additional body parts may have been disposed of at separate locations and continue to probe possible dumping sites.
The gruesome nature of the crime, combined with the premeditated injection and methodical dismemberment, has intensified scrutiny on the motive and sequence of events. Police are working to reconstruct the timeline and gather further forensic evidence as the investigation progresses under the Salem Tabri police station.
