In a separate but unrelated incident on the same day, a scooter caught fire near BSF Chowk in Jalandhar, prompting a swift response from local authorities. No injuries were reported in that case either, though the incident added to concerns over public safety in the region.
Both incidents have drawn strong political reactions in Punjab. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia criticised the state government, questioning its handling of law and order and alleging that authorities rushed to conclusions without a proper investigation. He also called for central intervention, urging the Union Home Ministry and Prime Minister to take note of the security situation in Punjab.
Majithia further suggested that the explanation of a “scooter blast” or similar causes was being used to downplay serious incidents, raising concerns about transparency in the investigation process. He demanded a thorough probe and accountability from the administration.Punjab BJP General Secretary Parminder Singh Brar also expressed concern, describing the Jalandhar incident as a reflection of deteriorating law and order in the state. He criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government, stating that governance cannot be replaced by public messaging and optics.
Meanwhile, Congress leader and Punjab MLA Partap Singh Bajwa called the Jalandhar explosion “deeply alarming,” urging the government to adopt proactive safety measures rather than reactive responses. He also extended wishes for the recovery of an injured BSF personnel in the separate incident.Earlier incidents in the state, including a blast on a railway track in Patiala’s Rajpura area in April, have further heightened security concerns. Authorities continue to investigate whether any of the recent incidents are linked, while forensic and bomb disposal teams remain actively engaged in analysis and inspection.
