Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during his visit to the national capital to attend the 18th BRICS Summit being hosted under India’s chairship. The meeting between the two leaders took place on the sidelines of the summit, with India and Egypt continuing their longstanding diplomatic engagement through both bilateral and multilateral platforms.
El-Sisi arrived in New Delhi to participate in the BRICS Summit, which has brought leaders and representatives of emerging economies together for discussions on cooperation and issues of global importance. His meeting with Modi was part of the bilateral engagements taking place alongside the summit. Such meetings provide participating leaders an opportunity to review existing partnerships and discuss areas of mutual interest while also engaging on wider international and economic issues.
India and Egypt share longstanding diplomatic relations that date back to the early years of independent India. Diplomatic relations between the two countries at the ambassadorial level were established on August 18, 1947. Over the decades, the relationship has developed through sustained political engagement and cooperation across several areas. The two countries have also maintained regular high-level contacts, reflecting the importance attached to their bilateral partnership.
