In a high-voltage encounter deep inside the Bidoli forests of Uttar Pradesh late Monday night, police eliminated Mithun, the dreaded mastermind of the notorious Bawaria interstate gang who carried a combined reward of ₹1.25 lakh and was wanted in over twenty cases of murder, robbery and dacoity across multiple states.
Acting on precise intelligence that Mithun and his accomplices were planning a major crime in the region, a joint team of Jhijhana police station and the Special Operations Group surrounded the area. As soon as the police challenged the gang, the criminals unleashed heavy gunfire. In the intense exchange that followed, Mithun was shot dead on the spot while his associate Rahul managed to melt away into the darkness.
One SOG Head Constable, Harvinder, sustained a bullet injury and was immediately rushed to the community health centre before being referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment. Jhijhana Station House Officer Virendra Kasana had a miraculous escape when a bullet tore through his jacket without causing injury. Superintendent of Police Narendra Pratap Singh personally reached the encounter site to oversee operations and evidence collection.

From the slain gangster’s possession, police recovered a sophisticated carbine and a high-end Made-in-Italy pistol along with several rounds of ammunition. Mithun had ₹1 lakh reward declared by Shamli police and ₹25,000 by Bagpat police, and had been operating with impunity across Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh and even Tamil Nadu.
His criminal journey began with assault cases but rapidly escalated to cold-blooded murder, including the sensational 2017 killing of Bharat Kumar in Jhijhana. Known for striking during the Kanwar Yatra and other crowded events, Mithun had built a reign of terror through calculated robberies and violence, frequently changing hideouts between Punjab, South Delhi and Jaipur to evade capture until Monday’s decisive police action finally ended his decade-long crime spree.
