Two people were killed after a fire broke out in a residential building in Noida’s Sector 66 area, allegedly triggered by an electric scooter kept on charging. The blaze spread rapidly after reaching nearby parked vehicles, while thick smoke entered apartments on the upper floors, leading to a major rescue operation in which more than 100 residents were evacuated, police said.
According to officials, the fire started on the first floor of a residential building in the Mamura area under the jurisdiction of Phase-3 police station. A charging electric scooter reportedly caught fire, following which the flames spread to other vehicles parked nearby. The smoke quickly filled the building, making it difficult for residents to exit safely from the affected premises.
Police, fire department teams and multiple fire tenders reached the location soon after receiving information about the incident. Emergency personnel carried out a large-scale rescue operation and managed to evacuate over 100 occupants from the smoke-filled building. Several residents affected by smoke inhalation were taken to hospitals for medical attention, while two people were declared dead.

Both individuals have been taken into custody, and authorities are investigating whether required safety measures were followed and if any violations contributed to the spread of the fire.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety risks associated with charging electric vehicles in residential areas. Experts and authorities have repeatedly highlighted the importance of proper charging infrastructure, safe electrical practices and adequate fire safety arrangements, particularly in buildings where multiple residents share common spaces.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the incident and directed senior officials to immediately reach the site and supervise rescue and relief operations. He instructed authorities to ensure proper medical care for the injured, speed up emergency response efforts and continue monitoring the situation. Officials have been asked to provide all necessary assistance to the affected residents.
