A 19-year-old woman, married only two months ago, was found hanging in her room at her in-laws’ home in Sheikhpur village, Ballia district, police said on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Sarita Rajbhar, reportedly went to sleep after dinner on Friday. On Saturday morning, when she failed to respond to repeated knocks, her family members peeped through the window and discovered her hanging from a noose.

Local police, led by SHO Rajendra Prasad Singh, reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Sarita had married Abhishek Rajbhar, an employee in a private company, in June this year. Abhishek reportedly spends most of his time outside the village due to work commitments.

“The exact cause of death is not clear yet. We are investigating all possible angles,” the SHO said, adding that statements of family members and relatives would be recorded. The incident has left the village in shock, and police said further action would depend on the autopsy report.
