Kishtwar Police have solved the murder case of Special Police Officer (SPO) Bashir Ahmed, who went missing along with his service rifle on October 15, 2026. Two men have been arrested in connection with the killing, following an investigation into the officer’s disappearance. The case came to light after Ahmed failed to return home from his duty post in the Trigam area of Kishtwar district, prompting his family to alert the police.
Ahmed’s wife reportedly went to the police post to inquire about his whereabouts after he failed to reach home. She was informed that he had already left the post, but his continued absence raised concerns. Senior police officials were subsequently alerted, and multiple teams were formed to search for the missing officer and his service weapon. The investigation took a crucial turn on October 16, when police recovered his body from a pit in a drainage channel in the Seran Wani area of Trigam forest.
Police said the body had been buried in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime. The recovery of the officer’s service rifle and the discovery of his body led investigators to suspect that he had been murdered. A case was registered at Kishtwar Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with murder. Investigators subsequently intensified their efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding his death and identify those responsible.

During the investigation, police identified two suspects, Bashir Ahmed Dar, son of Abdul Aziz Dar, and Nazir Ahmed Dar, son of Bashir Ahmed Dar. Both men are residents of Seran Wani in the Trigam area. According to police officials, the two suspects were questioned, and investigators said they disclosed details of the alleged conspiracy and motive behind the killing. Police also reported recovering the weapon allegedly used in the crime and belongings belonging to the deceased.
Officials suspect that a land dispute may have been the motive behind the murder, although the investigation remains ongoing. The arrests have marked a significant development in the case, which initially prompted a search operation after the officer disappeared with his service weapon. Police are continuing to examine the evidence and establish the sequence of events leading to Ahmed’s death. Further legal proceedings are expected as investigators work to complete the case.
