The Meghalaya Police submitted a comprehensive 790-page chargesheet on Friday before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Sohra Sub-Division, implicating eight individuals in the high-profile murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Sohra in May 2025. The accused includes Raghuvanshi's wife, Sonam, as detailed by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem.
The couple arrived in Shillong on May 21 and proceeded to Sohra, where they were reported missing on May 26. A multi-agency search involving Sohra police, the Special Operations Team, NDRF, SDRF, trekking groups, and locals led to the recovery of Raghuvanshi's body on June 2 from a deep gorge at Arliang Riat Kunongrim near Wei Sawdong Falls. A case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), prompting the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP (City) Herbert Kharkongor.
Investigations uncovered that Sonam was in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha, and the duo allegedly conspired with three hired assailants—Aakash Singh Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi—to murder Raghuvanshi at the gorge, disguised as a honeymoon outing. Within a week, five suspects, including Sonam, were apprehended in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The primary accused faces charges under BNS sections 103(1) (murder), 238(a) (disappearance of evidence), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy). Three additional individuals—Lokendra Tomar, Balla Ahirwar, and Shilom James—were later arrested from Gwalior, Shadora, and Dewas for allegedly aiding in evidence destruction.
The case has drawn attention for its premeditated nature, with police emphasising the SIT's swift action backed by material evidence. Further court proceedings are awaited as the probe concludes.
