In a shocking case from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, Om Saran, 38, was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife, Amarvati, at the urging of his lover, Mannat, and attempting to disguise the crime as a highway robbery. Saran has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder, fabricating evidence, and providing false information, according to SSP Anurag Arya.
Initially, Saran claimed that on July 31, while returning home on a motorcycle, 3-4 unidentified men attacked them near Kanthari village, stealing Amarvati’s mangalsutra, earrings, and Rs 10,000 before fatally assaulting her. However, inconsistencies in his story and call records revealing his contact with Mannat led police to uncover the plot.
ASP Anshika Verma revealed that Saran, who had secretly married Mannat, was pressured by her to kill Amarvati to sustain their relationship. On July 30, Saran took Amarvati to Purnagiri, borrowed a motorcycle and a sharp weapon from his brother-in-law, and later attacked her at a deserted spot around 12:15 am, killing her instantly. He hid her jewelry and cash in bushes to stage a robbery, then called for an ambulance to feign urgency.
