In a brazen betrayal of duty, two separate alcohol-fueled crashes by law enforcers stunned Madhya Pradesh within mere hours on Monday evening. The first unfolded around 8 p.m. near Bhopal Railway Station’s platform 6, where ITBP jawan Deepak alias Rajendra Singh, reeking of liquor, drove his private car marked with a "POLICE" sticker at reckless speed. He had left the Kokta Transport Nagar campus to pick up a guest but instead plowed into four young pedestrians and roadside carts, scattering chaos and cries across the busy road.
Bystanders watched in horror as the victims suffered brutal leg injuries, one with a shattered bone requiring immediate surgery, before being rushed to Hamidia Hospital for urgent care. The intoxicated driver tried to flee the wreckage, but enraged locals overpowered him, delivering street justice with thrashings and vandalizing his vehicle. Mangalwara police soon detained Deepak, confirming his drunken state and sending him for medical examination, with Inspector Ajay Kumar Soni vowing full legal proceedings against the paramilitary offender.
Just two hours later, around 10:30 p.m., Indore’s Raoji Bazaar turned into a nightmare when three uniformed policemen in a white car targeted innocent civilians. Identified as Constable Anil from Sanyogitaganj, Head Constable Sudarshan Herve from Bhanwarkuan, and Constable Vedant from Azad Nagar, the trio first struck two young women buying medicine at a pharmacy. They then accelerated wildly, running over four to five more bystanders in a desperate bid to escape the growing alarm and pursuit from shocked residents.

Furious locals gave chase on foot and surrounded the vehicle, gasping in disbelief upon realizing the culprits were serving officers sworn to protect them. Despite the tense standoff, the drunken policemen slipped away before reinforcements arrived, leaving behind injured victims and a community demanding answers. Hospitals in Indore treated the wounded, while the incident amplified calls for accountability and stricter controls on alcohol use among those in uniform.
These twin scandals have ignited widespread outrage, exposing a chilling irony where protectors became predators and eroded public trust overnight. The detained Bhopal jawan faces charges as his victims recover, while the fugitive Indore officers remain at large, prompting urgent investigations. Both cases highlight the need for mandatory breathalyzer tests, severe punishments, and reforms to prevent such reckless impunity from tarnishing the badge again.
