Kolkata Police have submitted a 658-page charge sheet against four individuals accused of the gang-rape of a 24-year-old first-year law student at South Calcutta Law College on June 25, 2025, marking a significant step toward justice nearly two months after the crime. The charge sheet, filed before the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alipore on Saturday, names Monojit Mishra, a 31-year-old criminal lawyer and former student, as the prime accused, along with students Zaib Ahmed, 19, and Pramit Mukherjee, 20, and security guard Pinaki Banerjee, 55.
The charges, backed by forensic, digital, and circumstantial evidence, include gang rape, forcible wrongful confinement, kidnapping with intent to cause harm, evidence tampering, and criminal intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as violations of the Information Technology Act for recording the assault. Key evidence includes DNA matches from Mishra on the survivor’s clothing, mobile phone footage showing the crime, and CCTV footage capturing the victim being forcibly taken to the guard’s room.
The assault occurred between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm in the security guard’s room, where the accused allegedly locked the campus gates and threatened to release the recorded video to silence the survivor. Mishra, a former Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) unit president, was terminated from his temporary staff role, while Ahmed and Mukherjee were expelled. Banerjee was arrested for abetting by allowing the use of his room and failing to intervene. TMCP has distanced itself from Mishra, claiming no ties since 2022.
