AAP Leader Arvind Kejriwal has launched a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) over the rising drug menace in Punjab. Speaking at a public event in Chandigarh, Kejriwal accused the state’s previous governments of turning a blind eye to the issue, allowing illegal drug trade and addiction to flourish among the youth.
Kejriwal highlighted that despite repeated warnings and reports, successive administrations failed to take strict action against drug cartels and trafficking networks. He alleged that political patronage and inaction had contributed to the worsening situation, affecting not only the health of young people but also social stability in Punjab.
Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of anti-drug laws and greater accountability from political parties. “The youth of Punjab deserve a life free from the clutches of drugs. We cannot let political interests override their well-being,” Kejriwal stated.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader also pointed out that rehabilitation facilities and preventive awareness programs in the state have been insufficient. He urged local authorities to strengthen policing, increase community engagement, and collaborate with NGOs to curb substance abuse.
Political analysts suggest that Kejriwal’s comments are aimed at consolidating support in Punjab ahead of upcoming elections, positioning his party as a champion of youth welfare and social reform. The BJP and Akali Dal, both of which have governed Punjab in the past, are likely to respond to these allegations in the coming days.
The issue of drug abuse has long been a sensitive topic in Punjab, with reports indicating a persistent challenge despite multiple crackdowns. Kejriwal’s remarks signal a renewed focus on the problem, highlighting the ongoing debate over accountability, governance, and the measures needed to protect the state’s younger population.
